Delhi’s AQI rose to 333 on Saturday as dense smog enveloped the city, while the IMD issued a cold wave alert with temperatures expected to hover around 8–9°C. Mundka recorded the worst air quality at 381, with most stations in the ‘very poor’ range.

Hyderabad and several Telangana districts are expected to experience a significant dip in night temperatures from Friday, with IMD forecasting minimums between 11°C and 15°C through the weekend. The colder spell marks a noticeable shift after weeks of mild weather.

Delhi’s AQI improved from 335 to 299 on Thursday, moving into the ‘poor’ category. The IMD has predicted clear skies and a cold wave on Friday. Minimum temperature dipped to 5.6°C, with humidity at 92 per cent.

Cold conditions tightened their grip over Delhi-NCR on Thursday as air quality again deteriorated, with Wazirpur and Bawana touching the ‘severe’ category. Despite the withdrawal of GRAP Stage 3 restrictions, most localities recorded ‘very poor’ AQI amid dense fog and worsening pollution.

Telangana faces severe cold wave conditions, with 13 locations recording single-digit temperatures. The state’s average minimum dropped to 12.9°C, with IMD issuing a yellow warning. Hyderabad is expected to see slightly below-normal temperatures in the coming days.

Sirpur (U) mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district recorded Telangana’s lowest minimum temperature of this winter at 7.4°C on Sunday. Bazarhathnoor in Adilabad registered 8.4°C, Pembi in Nirmal dipped to 10.1°C, and Jannaram in Mancherial logged 11.5°C. The cold wave kept residents indoors, with many venturing out only after 10 am.

In its early morning forecast on Sunday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad predicted that fog and misty conditions in several locations across Telangana will persist for another five days.

As per the Telangana Planning Development Society, Arli (T) village in Bheempur mandal, Adilabad district, recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Telangana at 5.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bela and Mavala mandal headquarters, along with the Bela mandal center, registered minimum temperatures of 6.3 degrees Celsius and 7.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The lowest minimum temperature of 8.8°C was recorded at the University of Hyderabad campus, Serilingampally, and the BHEL Factory in Ramachandrapuram. Rajendranagar saw a temperature of 9.4°C, while Moula Ali recorded a minimum of 9.6°C.

In Hyderabad, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus in Gachibowli recorded a low of 11 degrees Celsius, while Sirpur in the Komaram Bheem Asifabad district registered 7.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning.

As temperatures continue to drop in the city, heaters have been placed in the night houses of carnivores, primates, and bears to protect them from the extreme cold, especially at night. To prevent foot cramps in carnivores, which are common during winter, the zoo authorities have also provided wooden planks in their night houses.

While multiple areas in Hyderabad had recorded single-digit minimum temperatures in the last 48-hours, the minimum temperatures recorded on Wednesday morning in twin cities was above 10 degree Celsius

Mavala in Adilabad records 5.9 degrees Celsius and in Hyderabad, at University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus the temperature dropped to 7.8 degrees Celsius

Intense cold wave conditions also prevailed across several districts in Telangana with temperatures in Adilabad, Nirmal, Vikarabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad hovering between 6.3 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius

Gulmarg recorded minus 3.5 while Pahalgam recorded minus 4.8 as the minimum temperature. Jammu city had 8.4, Katra 10, Batote 6.5, Banihal 3.2 and Bhaderwah 1.4 as the minimum temperature

The temperatures have dropped 2-3 degree Celsius at multiple districts, especially those surrounding Hyderabad including Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts in Telangana.

The IMD's forecast for the day showed that the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 20 degrees, with the minimum at around 5 degrees

The IMD reported an extended cold wave and fog in North India, with scientist Soma Sen anticipating minimal temperature change and persisting foggy mornings and cold wave conditions for at least two days.
