  • Maoists announce temporary suspension of armed struggle, await govt response

    In a purported statement, the outlawed CPI (Maoist) has announced a temporary suspension of its armed struggle and offered to hold peace talks with the central government. The rebels have requested a one-month ceasefire and halt to security operations to consult with their leadership. The statement, issued in the name of spokesperson Abhay, follows the death of Maoist leader Basavaraju in an encounter.
