Tight security has been imposed in Chittoor ahead of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Bangarupalem mandal to meet mango farmers. Only 500 people are allowed at the venue amid allegations of crowd mobilisation and preventive detentions.
The surplus, compounded by limited processing infrastructure and restricted market access, has pushed farmers into distress, threatening their livelihoods and casting a shadow over the State’s mango industry
The impacted areas include Bheemaram, Nennal, Bheemini, Chennur, Mandamarri, and Thandur mandals. Mangoes ready for harvest lay scattered across the roads, underscoring the scale of the destruction. The strong winds also uprooted several mature mango trees, compounding the losses suffered by farmers.
Consequently, 724 farmers suffered losses. Already, mango crop being raised in 484 acres was hit by the showers experienced on May 5, affecting 127 farmers.
The National Horticulture Board (NHB) is implementing the CDP and Telangana State Horticulture Development Corporation (TSHDCL) is identified as the Cluster Development Agency.
