Police detained several members of the Banjara community outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly in Hyderabad after they attempted to enter the premises during a protest. The demonstrators demanded that the State government expedite installation of a grand statue of Sant Sevalal Maharaj, revered as a spiritual leader and reformer of the community.
BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao extended greetings on Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s birth anniversary, praising his teachings on social harmony and recalling welfare initiatives undertaken for the development and empowerment of the Banjara community.
Chief Minister said the birth anniversary celebrations of Sevalal Maharaj stood as another example for the argument that formation of Telangana would ensure due recognition to the identity and self-respect of downtrodden communities.
