Over the years, India and other countries have witnessed several major tunnel collapses, raising concerns about rescue operations and the need for stringent safety protocols
The teams are meticulously clearing soil mounds and concrete debris from inside the tunnel. Special measures have been implemented to drain water from the accident site. However, ongoing efforts to rescue the eight trapped workers have been significantly hindered by mud blockages.
Rescue teams are facing significant challenges due to mud and water filling the collapsed section of the tunnel. The last 200 meters remain blocked by debris, preventing further progress. Despite reaching the tunnel boring machine, the teams have been unable to move beyond it, struggling to access the final stretch where the trapped workers are located.
The NDRF teams travelled into the tunnel in vehicles upto 12 kilometers and trudged for another two kilometers, but found the collapse site completely submerged and full of slush, making it difficult for them to move ahead
Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who visited the mishap site along with Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, said the government will not spare any effort to rescue the trapped workers
