Two schoolgirls were killed after a train hit a school van at an unmanned railway crossing in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district. The railway gatekeeper was suspended for alleged negligence as officials launched a high-level inquiry into the tragic incident.
The train, which was coming from Visakhapatnam, collided with the buffalo grazing on the tracks near the 428/11 upline. The impact broke a portion of the cattle guard at the front of the train, prompting an unscheduled halt.
The accident took place near Pachora station, where Pushpak Express had halted after someone pulled the chain due to a rumour of fire on board around 5 pm.
Giving an update on the restoration work, the railway said train no.12434 (Chennai Rajdhani express) passed through the Kavaraipettai railway station UP mainline at 9.15 pm today, signifying the restoration of normalcy.

According to railway officials, the accident occurred at about 7 p.m. between Alamanda and Kantakapalli in Vizianagaram-Kothavalasa Railway Section of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway Zone.
