"YTPS is another indelible signature of Chandrashekhar Rao on the history of Telangana. Chandrashekhar Rao's vision and efforts behind this power plant will be remembered for a long time by the people of Telangana," he said.
Once fully operational, the ultra-mega power project will have a total capacity of 4,000 MW across five units and is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Telangana’s energy infrastructure.
According to latest report of the CEA, Telangana surpassed Rajasthan, Karnataka and Punjab and reached 5th rank with its power demand touching 15,573 MW in August
This is even after the Congress announced a slew of reforms in the power sector and promised to improve power supply in the State. But even after one year, it does not have even a clear policy to take up new power projects.
The Congress had also found fault with the location of the Yadadri plant, saying that it was far from coal mines which could lead to coal transport costs of over Rs.800 crore per annum, and went to the extent of terming the project unviable.
BRS member and former Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy alleged that the Congress was trying to discredit the efforts of the BRS in strengthening the power sector in the State.
