According to sources, over 600 engineers and other technical staff are required for operation and maintenance (O&M) of the plant.
The State government has plans to start all the five units of the plant by next March and if the recruitment process of engineers is not started before it, the plant is likely to face several problems.
Though the State government issued an order in May 2017 sanctioning required posts of engineers, the Genco management has so far not taken any measure in that direction causing concern among the staff.
Genco’s governing body recently extended the deadlines to start production on unit 3 in December, Unit 4 in February 2025 and Unit 5 by the end of March. It is in this background that now the issue of filling up the posts has come to the fore.
Though the State government had sanctioned the posts in 2017 itself, the approval of the governing body of Genco has to be given to fill them, sources said.
It is learnt that the Genco management was not recruiting engineers for the Yadadri power plant in advance as it felt that the newly appointed engineers would have to be paid salaries and given other facilities before the commencement of operations.
Meanwhile, officials claimed that the recruitment of engineers and other staff for the plant was in progress and that all the necessary staff would be available at the time of commissioning of the plant. If necessary, engineers would be deputed from other plants of GENCO to initially run the plant, the officials said.
