Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Task Force busted a six-member attention diversion gang, including four women, from Monda Market in Hyderabad on Monday. The gang posing as customers entered jewellery shops and after diverting the attention of shopkeepers, stole silver ornaments, police said. Silver ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh and an auto-rickshaw were seized from them.
The arrested were Y Renuka (40), M Kiran (40), Y Tulasi (24), Y Swetha (22), Y Raju (29), and Elizabeth Rani (25), all natives of Prakasam of Andhra Pradesh. They were involved in three cases recently, two under the Hyderabad police commissionerate limits and one under Rachakonda.
According to the police, the gang would conduct a recce in an auto and target jewellery shops posing as customers. Following a complaint, police collected footage from around 200 surveillance cameras, verified the modus operandi and identified the culprits, who were arrested and produced before court.
