Inscription found at Dommata village of Cheriyal Mandal in Siddipet district.
Siddipet: Historians of Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam (KTCB) have discovered an inscription belonging to 14th century AD in agriculture fields at Dommata village of Cheriyal Mandal in Siddipet district.
During exploration, a member of KTCB, Kolipaka Srinivas, found the inscription recently. Srinivas forwarded the digital images of the inscription to Sriramoju Haragopal, the founder of KTCB.
After decoding the inscription, Haragopal found that a local ruler Pyidimarri Naganayani had bought the entire Dommata village and gifted it to local Brahmins as Agraharam.
Though the time period was not mentioned on the inscription, Haragopal said the Telugu script used on the inscription belonged to 14th century AD. There was nothing mentioned on the inscription on Pydimarri Naganayani’s dynasty.
Since there was no prominent rule in South India with the name, the KTCB members observed that he might be a local ruler.
Dommata village, which has a history of over 600 years, was divided into two villages some 20 years ago when local stream Gurujakunta Vagu flooded through the village. While some villagers built their houses on the right bank of the stream, the others built their houses on the left bank.
The two villages are now called Kotha Dommata and Patha Dommata. Since there was a stream and tank called Krishnamma close to the villages, the KTCB members opined that the water availability might have attracted humans to make the location a permanent settlement.
Sarpanch of the Patha Dommata Galipalli Subhashini thanked the KTCB team for their efforts in tracing the history of their village.
