Hyderabad: Residents of at least 10 villages in Ramannapet mandal of Yadadri-Bhongir district are fiercely opposing the establishment of the Adani Ambuja Cement Factory, fearing it will turn their communities into pollution hotspots.
The locals have been protesting for weeks, expressing concerns that dust and ash from the factory will devastate their green fields and disrupt their lives.
On Wednesday, villagers have organized rallies to Ramannapet, where the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) is conducting a public hearing on the proposed cement factory.
In anticipation of a large turnout, police forces have been heavily deployed in the area. The BRS local leadership has firmly stated that they will not allow the factory to be established, as it would negatively impact the lives of the people.
Armed with resolutions adopted at the gram sabhas, the villagers plan to present their case during the public hearing, emphasizing the adverse environmental and health impacts of the factory. The outcome of this hearing is expected to be crucial in determining the future of the proposed project.
Back in 2020, the Adani Group had acquired 365 acres in Ramannapet and Kommayigudem, promising to set up a dry port and create employment opportunities, thereby gaining the trust of local farmers.
However, the recent announcement of their plan to establish a cement factory has shocked the community and sparked widespread protests.
The residents are now united in their opposition, determined to protect their land and livelihood from the potential hazards posed by the cement factory.
