Hyderabad: As the State universities are gearing up for hiring teachers, the Telangana Council of Higher Education is planning to roll out a single application system for the recruitment.
Accordingly, the Council will shortly come up with an online common application portal and eligible candidates can apply for 12 universities via a single application form. However, the candidates need to select their preferred university at the time of submitting the application.
Depending on a candidate’s preferences, the university concerned will examine the application besides holding scrutiny before conducting the interviews. This will reduce the burden on the candidates who are applying to different universities, a senior official said.
The Higher Education department has recently issued guidelines for recruitment to assistant professor vacancies in 12 universities. As per the guidelines, 50 marks have been allocated to academic record and research performance, 30 marks for domain knowledge and teaching skills, and 20 marks for interviews.
However, a screening test is being planned as there are no NET, SLET, SET and similar examinations in the engineering and technology disciplines unlike other disciplines. Presently, 1,114 assistant professor posts are vacant of the 1,572 sanctioned strength.
“We will shortly start the recruitment process for assistant professors recruitment,” said a senior official.
Meanwhile, contract assistant professors working in 12 universities have put forward their demand of regularisation before going in for the recruitment of assistant professors.
Presently, 1,240 contract teachers have been working in the universities for the past several years. If not regularisation, the contract teachers wanted the government to extend them with basic, DA, HRA and three percent annual increment, and job security.
“Regularisation of the contract assistant professors is ruled out due to past court judgements. We will not be disturbing them with the new recruitment. We are examining how to go about giving basic, DA and HRA to them,” a senior official added.
