Four women from Pardhi gang arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police have arrested four women, Palan Bai Pardhi, Shahnaj Bai, Nimat Bai, and Madhuri Adivasi, all belonging to Pardhi tribal community of Madhya Pradesh, for their alleged involvement in sandalwood theft incidents in Jubilee Hills and Madhuranagar on Friday.

The suspects along with associates committed multiple sandalwood thefts from the National Institute for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises campus in Yousufguda, and surrounding areas, officials said.

So far, 23 members have been identified in this organised gang, which included women and children to avoid suspicion and mislead the police and public. The gang migrated to Hyderabad about 20 days ago and has been involved in stealing and selling sandalwood to known local smugglers.

According to the police, around 20 Pardhi families allegedly conspired to travel to Hyderabad with the intent of engaging in organized sandalwood theft. “The operation was meticulously structured, involving men, women, and even children to create the appearance of regular family travel. This facade was deliberately employed to deflect public suspicion and gain the trust of auto drivers and other locals while transporting stolen sandalwood,” said a senior police official from Jubilee Hills.

The thefts were carried out in a targeted and systematic manner, focusing on areas such as Jubilee Hills and Madhurnagar. “The use of family units and coordinated planning points to the existence of an organized criminal enterprise rather than isolated acts of theft,” the official added.
