Telangana: CRPF constable, mother get life imprisonment in murder case

Khammam: The principal district and sessions judge, G Rajagopal, on Wednesday sentenced CRPF constable Tejawath Upender Naik and his mother Padma to life imprisonment in a murder case.
According to the prosecution, Bhukya Kalyani of Palaram thanda in Suryapet district and Naik of Bakapuram thanda in Mudigonda mandal of Khammam district got married on May 18, 2017.
After the birth of their child, she was harassed by her husband, mother-in-law Padma, uncle Krishna and sister-in-law Kavitha.
A complaint in this connection was made at Ananthagiri police station in 2019. The police conducted counselling and sent Kalyani back to her husband’s house in the presence of the family elders.
On February 12, 2020, Naik called his in-laws saying that their daughter had fallen unconscious.
Kalyani’s parents went to Bakapuram thanda and found her lying lifeless with blood injuries on her body.
The woman’s father Kaliya lodged a complaint against Naik, the in-laws and two others. Police filed a charge sheet in the court and judge Rajagopal examined the evidence and arguments of the prosecution.
Naik and Padma were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The woman’s father in-law Krishna, sister-in-law Kavitha and another woman Aruna were acquitted.
Public prosecutor Shankar argued on behalf of the prosecution, while officers K Srikanth, D Nageswara Rao, CDO P Adinarayana, A Suryanarayana and Masood assisted him.
