Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress government appears to have yet again betrayed the unemployed youth and government job aspirants. After failing to honour its own electoral promise of issuing notifications for 2 lakh vacancies within one year in power, the Congress government has now not extended the upper age limit relaxation, eliminating a 12-year age concession that had been earlier provided to the unemployed.
The upper-age limit to appear for the direct recruitments is now 34 years, as the two-year relaxation, with an age concession of 46 years granted by the Congress government, has lapsed.
This is evident from the recent Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) notification for recruitment to the 20-assistant scientist (analyst grade-II) vacancies in Telangana Pollution Control Board (TG PCB). The Commission notified that candidates should be aged between 18 (minimum age) and 34 years (upper-age limit) as on July 1, 2026.
However, the same vacancies had an upper age limit of 44 years during the previous BRS regime when the Commission had notified 63 vacancies, including assistant environmental engineer, analyst grade-II, steno-cum-typist, in 2017.
Earlier, the previous BRS government had increased the maximum age limit by 10 years for direct recruitment to vacancies for a period of two years in 2022. With this, the upper-age limit for the general category went up from 34 years to 44 years, SCs, STs, and BCs to 49 years and Persons with disabilities to 54 years, giving opportunities for youth between 18 years and 54 years to compete for government jobs.
After assuming power, the Congress government went a step ahead, enhancing the upper-age limit by two more years, taking it to 46 years for general category, for a period of two years till February 2026. But this decision proved to be of no use to the unemployed as the State government failed to notify recruitment, particularly, Group – II, III and IV, police and forest department vacancies.
Even before the two-year upper-age relaxation validity ended in February 2026, the Commission wrote to the government in January seeking an extension of the age concession. However, so far, the government has not made a decision. This prompted the TGPSC to go ahead with the recruitment notification.
Meanwhile, the registration for recruitment to assistant scientist (analyst grade-II) vacancies in TG PCB will commence on April 27, with the deadline to apply being May 25. For detailed notification and information, candidates can visit the Commission’s website https://www.tgpsc.gov.in/.
