Hyderabad: Amid mounting pressure from the BRS which has been staging protests across Telangana over the non-release of funds, the State government on Wednesday decided to release Rs 303 crore towards Overseas Scholarship dues for SC, ST, BC, OC and Minority students studying abroad.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu directed the Finance Department to immediately release the funds and clear all arrears from 2022 to date in one go.
The move follows weeks of unrest among students and parents, who accused the Congress government of neglecting welfare schemes initiated by the previous BRS regime. Due to non-release of scholarship funds, students abroad and their parents in Telangana have been facing severe mental and financial stress.
Thousands of students studying abroad had been struggling with unpaid dues and mounting debts, with limited opportunities to study and work simultaneously. The government’s decision, coming after sustained BRS agitation, is being viewed as a face-saving measure to defuse growing public anger ahead of the upcoming Jubilee Hills bypoll.
