Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday admitted a petition filed by BRS leader Manne Krishank challenging the Secunderabad Cantonment Board’s new mortgage rule, which he said was causing hardship to middle-class families.
Senior advocate MAK Mukheed, representing Krishank, argued that while GHMC mandates a 10 per cent mortgage of the built-up area only for plots above 200 sq m, the Cantonment Board has extended the clause even to smaller plots measuring 111 sq m. He contended that this makes it difficult for ordinary citizens in the Cantonment area to build houses.
Taking note of the plea, the High Court issued notices to the Cantonment Board and directed it to file a counter within one week.
Unlike GHMC’s TS-bPASS system, building permissions in the Cantonment area are approved only after Board resolutions, making the new policy particularly burdensome, the petition stated.
