Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday attacked the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, questioning its inaction on multiple allegations against the Congress government in Telangana. He said the BJP was acting as a protective shield for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, suggesting that the saffron party was intentionally overlooking a series of corruption cases and scams under the Congress government in Telangana.
In a statement, Rama Rao pointed to numerous instances of high-profile corruption under Congress governance. Specifically mentioning the AMRUT tenders scam, where Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law was awarded a Rs 1,137 crore contract despite lacking qualification, he questioned the BJP for protecting the corrupt practices of the Congress government in the State for political convenience.
“Proof has been submitted, yet zero action from the NDA government,” he said. Rama Rao reminded that the BJP government did not act against the Civil Supplies Scam, in which the Central government funds were misused, and the involvement of Reventh Reddy’s family.
Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself accusing the Revanth Reddy government of collecting Rs 150 per sqft as RR Tax (Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy tax), the BJP failed to take any action.
Rama Rao also recalled media reports of a massive cash haul during raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s properties, yet 150 days later, no action was taken. He demanded to know why the Centre had remained silent in the matters under its jurisdiction.
“Why is BJP shielding the Revanth Reddy government? This is a million-dollar question,” he remarked.
Referring to the collapse of the Sunikshala project retaining wall earlier and the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel disaster on Saturday, the BRS working president raised concerns and wondered if there would be any action against the Congress government. Despite the gravity of these incidents, he pointed out that the BJP government had failed to respond or initiate any investigation. “Let’s see if NDSA (National Dam Safety Authority) or any other national agency will react,” he said.
He said following the cracks developed in the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project during the BRS regime, there was an immediate response from the Central government. He added that the people of Telangana are aware of the Centre’s reluctance to act against the Congress government in the State, which raises doubts about the BJP’s true intentions.
Pointing to Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the BJP at the national level, he felt it ironic that the Congress and the BJP appear to work hand-in-glove in Telangana. He suggested that the reason behind this protection might be Revanth Reddy’s alleged agreement to join the BJP at an opportune moment. He said Revanth Reddy promised the BJP leadership that he would switch parties.
“To prove my allegations as false, the Central government should respond swiftly to the corruption cases, particularly regarding the alleged scams and mismanagement under Revanth Reddy’s leadership,” he challenged.
