Telangana medical colleges secure Rs 328 cr project approval for 511 PG seats

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released Rs 107.9 crore to Telangana under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for strengthening and upgrading government medical colleges. A total of 511 new or upgraded PG seats have been approved across nine institutions, including Osmania, Gandhi, and Kakatiya Medical Colleges.

Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that a total of Rs 107.9 crore has been released for ‘Strengthening and upgradation of Government Medical Colleges for starting new PG disciplines and increase of PG seats’ to Telangana, as part of its Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).

In response to the query raised by Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Mandadi Anil Kumar Yadav, the Minister of State, Union Health Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, replied that a total of 511 PG seats have been approved in various government medical colleges in Telangana with an approved cost of Rs 328.11 crore in two phases.

The fund sharing mechanism between the Centre and State Governments is in the ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern and Special Category States, and 60:40 for others.

Under the Scheme, financial support is provided for development of infrastructure and procurement of equipment.

Out of 328.11 crore, the Union Health Ministry’s total approved share is Rs 192.20 crore out of which it has already released Rs 107.9 crore while another Rs 4.31 crore is pending.

Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, a total of 511 new or upgraded Post-Graduate (PG) seats have been approved across nine medical colleges. The distribution of these seats is as follows:

Osmania Medical College (145), Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal (KMC) with 92 seats, Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad with 91 seats and GMC, Siddipet were approved for 80 seats. The remaining colleges have smaller allocations: GMC, Nalgonda (30 seats), GMC, Suryapet (25 seats), RIMS, Adilabad (22 seats), GMC, Nizamabad (16 seats), and GMC, Mahabubnagar (10 seats).
