Adilabad: Sixty-one contract-based teachers were elated to get jobs after winning a 16 years-long legal battle. However, their joy lived for a short period as they have been waiting to receive salaries for two months.
The candidates of DSC 2008 won the legal battle against the government and were recruited as contract-based teachers with a monthly salary of Rs 31,040, on February 15. They were still excited to get teacher jobs. Thirty teachers are from Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, while Nirmal district accounted for 15 teachers. Mancherial district has 14 teachers and there are seven teachers in Adilabad district.
The teachers were posted in different schools in Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal and Mancherial districts. Some of them are discharging duties in remote parts of the district, facing hardships. They completed two months of service.
However, they were disappointed when they were not paid salaries till now. The teachers submitted a representation to District Educational Officer Srinivas Reddy requesting him to release their salaries a few days back. They said that they were struggling to make ends meet due to delay in giving salaries.
“I was selected for the teacher job at the age of 42. I quit a lucrative business and joined the duties hoping to lead a secure life. I have been regularly discharging duties by travelling around 40 kilometers every day. I am forced to borrow money from my friends due to the delay in releasing the salaries,” a contract-based teacher said.
The officials of the education department clarified that the bills of the salaries were prepared and were submitted to the treasury department recently. They said that the teachers would get salaries once the government sanctions funds. Steps are being taken to ensure salaries to the teachers without delay.
Crunch of funds was attributed to the delay in giving salaries to the teachers.
