Hyderabad: The Para Sports Association of Telangana (PSAT) expressed concern that, despite Telangana’s para athletes bringing pride to the state and the nation through outstanding performances and medal-winning achievements at national and international levels, they continue to face inadequate recognition, encouragement, and institutional support.
In this regard, PSAT urged the Government of Telangana to immediately include para sports in the two per cent sports quota under GO Ms No. 74, create dedicated infrastructure for para athletes, ensure equal support and benefits, and ensure that all stadia have separate rooms and office facilities for the para sports wing. PSAT also suggested that TGPSC refrain from issuing new recruitment notifications until the quota and infrastructure measures are in place.
The association called on the government, sports authorities, media, and the public to recognize and celebrate para athletes’ accomplishments. “With proper opportunities, encouragement, and support, para athletes can achieve even greater success at national and international levels and bring further glory to Telangana and India,” it stated.
The meeting was attended by Singarapu Babu (President), Gadipalli Prashanth (General Secretary), Talari Sanjeevaiah (Advisor), Thalla Srinivas Reddy (Vice President), Amararapu Saidulu, Uppunuthula Raju, Ramavath Koti, Usakamalla Kalyan, Dheeravath Mahesh, Macherla Krishnaveni, Mounika, Shameer, Ramakrishna, and several other para athletes.
