Telangana: Rice millers insist review of rice out-turn
Rice millers from across the State expressed concerns that achieving an out-turn of 67 kg for fine rice was not feasible, especially with a moisture content of 14 percent.
Hyderabad: Rice millers from across the State who met here on Tuesday expressed concerns that achieving an out-turn of 67 kg for fine rice was not feasible, especially with a moisture content of 14 percent.
The out-turn ratio refers to the amount of milled rice obtained from a given quantity of paddy. This ratio can vary depending on several factors, including the type of rice, the milling process, and the moisture content of the paddy.
The millers wanted the government to conduct test milling to determine the out-turn and moisture levels and issue the government order accordingly for commencing the minimum support price (MSP) operations for Kharif marketing season.
In fact, 100 kg of paddy yields about 67 kg of raw rice. For parboiled rice, the out-turn is slightly higher, with 100 kg of paddy producing about 68 kg of rice. The millers wanted payment of incentives if the out-turn issue was not addressed.
The moisture content of the paddy at the time of milling significantly affects the out-turn ratio. Optimal moisture content for milling is around 14%. Milling equipment used can also impact the out-turn ratio, they said.
