Sangareddy: A drunk man, who attempted to escape the police during a vehicle check, hit a woman SI, Nagalakshmi, injuring her on the Mangampet-Jinnaram road on Monday evening. He went on to hit another car, which was also stopped as part of a drunk driving checking, injuring a man sitting in that car as well.
The accused, along with a co-passenger, then attempted to escape from the spot abandoning the Audi car, following which the locals chased him down and caught him. They handed over the accused, identified later as Purudu Narsing Rao, to the police.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Nagalakshmi said she was checking vehicles along with her team when Narsing Rao along with another person was coming towards Jinnaram from Palugu Pochamma temple. When they stopped the car and opened the door, Nagalakshmi said Rao stopped for a while but attempted to escape when the car door was opened. He hit the SI and hit another car stationed a few metres away.
The police took him into custody and seized the Audi car, bearing AP 12P 0003. The police shifted SI Nagalakshmi and the other injured man to a local hospital.
Police said the car was owned by Narsing Rao, a resident of Ameenpur. When the police checked, there were two challans pending against the car in September 2024 for dangerous driving and another ‘no parking’ area violation in December 2024.
The police have filed a charge sheet against the accused for drunk driving. SI Nagalakshmi said they would file a criminal case against him for hurting an officer while discharging duty and also for hitting another man.
