Sangareddy: Despite the Health Minister hailing from Sangareddy district, works on primary health sub-centres here are dragging on for several months.
The previous State government had granted 124 sub-centres to Sangareddy two years ago under the National Health Mission (NHM) intending to spread government health services to every nook and cranny.
The work of 90 sub-centres, which would be built with an outlay of Rs.20 lakh each, were handed over to the Engineering department in Panchayat Raj department while the remaining 34 were allotted to Mahila Samakhyas.
However, the department has managed to complete only just four of the sub-centres so far. Shockingly, there has been nothing done for 38 sub-centres, with lack of land being cited among reasons.
The Andole assembly constituency, represented by Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha, was granted 29 sub-centres. However, none of them have been completed so far.
The works of only 11 of them were grounded while officials could not identify the land for four of them. The establishment of the sub-centres will restrict the burden on primary health centres, which were primarily located in mandal headquarters, thus helping the staff here to provide additional services to the patients.
In addition to that, the patients, who were suffering from fever, cold and other ailments, need not travel to their mandal headquarters because the sub-centre could take care of all these minor health services.
Superintending Engineer (Panchayat Raj) Jagadishwar said they would take up the issues in completing the works to the notice of the Health Minister.
