Telangana’s Integrated Secretariat complex goes green
The building has been registered with Cll's Indian Green Building Council for ensuring sustainable construction

Hyderabad: The Telangana Integrated Secretariat building has been registered with Cll’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for integrating sustainability.
CII-IGBC is a premier Green Building certification body in India, and a founding member of World Green Building Council.
In a statement issued here, Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy was quoted saying that the R&B Department had always ensured sustainable constructions.
The upcoming secretariat building has multiple unique features and is being constructed with minimum impact on the environment, resulting in energy savings of at least 30 to 50 per cent, and water consumption savings of about 20 to 30 per cent, compared to conventional buildings. This particular aspect is in line with this year’s theme for World Environment Day – ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.
The project is designed and being constructed incorporating the concepts of enhanced building performance, healthy space for building occupants and by taking into consideration the construction norms due to Covid-19 situation.
Building occupants here will be in constant interaction with nature, which in turn can increase their productivity and keep up their physical and mental well being.
The secretariat complex is designed to be easily accessible for differently-abled people and senior citizens. It incorporates latest building automation technologies such as lighting controls, CO₂ monitoring, centralized control of air conditioners and other electrical systems. This project is constructed using locally available materials.
The R&B Department is also constructing new collectorate integrated office buildings in 28 districts duly complying with IGBC norms that can result in enhancing occupants’ Health and well being, reduction in operational costs and conservation of natural resources.
C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC-Hyderabad Chapter, speaking about this development, underlined that IGBC in collaboration with R&B Department had organised various capacity building programmes for engineers and architects involved in the project.
IGBC is also working closely with the Telangana government to implement its TSIIC – 5-point programme for ‘Retrofitting Existing IT Parks as Green Buildings in Cyberabad Zone, Hyderabad.
The Government of Telangana has taken a multi-pronged approach for reiterating its commitment to sustainability. Among important government buildings that have taken the green route are the HUDA Annexe Building; the Commissioner of Industries Bhavan, Abids; GHMC West Zone Office; Hyderabad Bhavan; all the Metro stations of Hyderabad Metro Rail, the Secunderabad, Hyderabad Deccan, and Kachiguda Railway Stations, Rail Nilayam building, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Telangana Martyr’s Memorial, and Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate Headquarters and Integrated Command & Control Centre.
