Hyderabad: Support for the protesting students is growing by the hour as YouTubers and actors increasingly take to their social media accounts to express their disapproval of the Congress government’s plan to raze 400 acres of urban forest in Kancha Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
With actors like Prakash Raj, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee voicing concerns over the issue, it has now gained attention beyond Hyderabad.
Extending her support to the protests against the clearing of the biodiversity-rich land in Kancha Gachibowli, Bollywood actress Richa Chadha has made a series of posts on her official X account.
In one of her posts, the actor opined that the forest land does not belong to any single person. “Tag the CM, tag your leadership. This forest is no one’s personal property. (Sic),” the actress said, tagging the official accounts of Telangana CMO and the Indian National Congress.
“Why was the forest cleared in the cover of darkness? Who operates in the cover of darkness? Thieves, that’s who. #SaveKancheGachibowli,” posted the actor, taking a dig at the State government.
Richa has also given a shout-out to Tollywood stars, urging them to support the protesters trying to save the urban forest. Tagging actors Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Nagarjuna, Richa wrote, “Would love to hear from the mega stars of Hyderabad, please, urge you to pressure the leadership to stop this madness.”
While Samantha has voiced her support, the other actors have not made any statements on the issue so far.
Meanwhile, a petition, which already has over a lakh signatures, has requested the concerned authorities to roll back the proposed auction of Kancha Gachibowli forest land by TGIIC. “Safeguarding our environment is not just an ethical commitment but a survival imperative,” it stated, urging more people to join the petition.
