Hyderabad: A local court has sentenced three men to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of 45-year-old Mohan Naidu in a murder-for-gain case reported in KPHB Colony in 2010. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 each on them.
Those convicted were identified as Bonala Nagachary (47) of Badichowdi, Sultan Bazar; Yengannagari Venkata Chary (48) of Pedda Bazar, Medak; and Prabir Mandal alias Praveen (48), a native of Nadia district in West Bengal.
According to the police, the victim, Mohan Naidu of Snehapuri Colony, Mothinagar, Borabanda, went missing from KPHB Colony on December 14, 2010. He was later found to have been murdered behind a kirana shop in Phase IV, KPHB Colony.
During the investigation, police found that the three suspects had allegedly conspired to kill Mohan over a financial dispute involving Rs.20,000. Mohan had reportedly taken the money from Nagachary after promising to facilitate the sanction of a house under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme.
The police said the trio lured Mohan to a room at Gokul Plots on the pretext of consuming liquor. Following an argument, Nagachary allegedly shot Mohan in the head. The three then removed his gold chain and rings, took his mobile phone and packed the body in a gunny bag.
The body was subsequently buried in a forest area near Chegunta in the erstwhile Medak district, while his clothes and other belongings were allegedly disposed of in Hasmathpet tank.
Forensic examination established that Mohan died of a bullet injury to the head, while DNA analysis conclusively established the identity of the recovered body.
Following completion of the investigation, police filed a charge sheet. After examining the evidence, the court convicted all three and awarded rigorous life imprisonment.
