Kothagudem: Intense competition has emerged between Congress old-timers and those who recently joined the party for the Kothagudem Agricultural Market Committee chairman post.
Old-timers have urged the party high command to give priority to those who carried party flags during difficult times, faced arrests, and worked hard during elections. They want their hard work to be recognised.
There is dissatisfaction among loyalists that they are being ignored in filling nominated posts despite working day and night for the party during elections. Senior leaders argue that there have been several instances in the past when their names were considered for nominated posts but were dropped at the last moment.
The names of several senior leaders, young aspirants and leaders from various social groups are doing the rounds. Seniors believe that the decision taken by the Congress leadership would affect political equations in Kothagudem.
Meanwhile, CPI leaders are also making efforts to secure the market committee chairman post, as the Kothagudem Assembly constituency is represented by party State secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao.
On the other hand, Lambadi community leaders are demanding that the Congress government give priority to their community in nominating the market committee chairman. This demand gained momentum after leaders from the Koya community also entered the race for the post.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Banjara Associations JAC vice-chairman Banoth Veeru Naik stated that most farmers in the constituency belong to the Banjara community, and therefore the post should be given to a community leader.
He said most MLAs in the district belong to the Koya community, and to balance the community equation, a Banjara leader should be made the market committee chairman.
Former market committee chairman Bhukya Rambabu is said to be making efforts to retain the post, while Koya leader Punem Srinu has been lobbying for it.
