Kothagudem: Tribal artisans have been asked to make use of government schemes to improve their skills and to reach a wider customer base.
Awareness programme on e-marketing and one stop Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and schemes being implemented by the Development Commissioner (DC) (Handicrafts) was organised at Women Empowerment Centre run by Nava Bharat Ventures Limited at Paloncha in Kothagudem on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC (Handicrafts) Service Centre, Warangal, Assistant Director, Lanka Manoj informed that Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under Ministry of Textiles has been implementing various schemes for promotion of handicrafts sector.
A policy framework has been developed with the objective of promoting the interests of artisans as well as the consumers towards the revival of the sector. Handicrafts sector has ample opportunity to show its product strength from the rural and urban areas, he said.
Explaining the benefits of identity cards being issued by the DC (H), Manoj said the cards would help to attend the training classes to improve their design, technical and skill. The card holders would be given a daily stipend of Rs 300 during the training period.
Under the aegis of the Development Commissioner marketing exhibitions would be organised across the nation. The card holders would be provided stalls free of cost and paid travelling and other allowances, he added.
Nava Bharat Vice President Y Srinivasa Murthy addressing the gathering noted that tribal artisans, especially the women should make use of the services offered by the DC(H) to earn a steady income.
SBI Regional Manager K Maheshwar and Lead District Manager K Basavaiah explained about the schemes being offered by the banks for the benefit of artisans, issues related to insurance and marketing.
