Hyderabad: In a heartwarming gesture, tribal women from Lagacherla village in Kodangal met BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday, and tied Rakhi, thanking him for standing by them during the Lagacherla land struggle.
Led by Jyothi from Rotibanda Thanda, the women said Rama Rao was a God-given brother who fought for their rights when the government attempted to acquire their agricultural lands and take away their livelihood. They recalled how one Jyothi who was pregnant, had to face police harassment following her husband’s arrest. However, Rama Rao came to the rescue of Jyothi and others, extending them all support.
The women credited him with taking their fight to Delhi, filing complaints with the National ST Commission and the National Human Rights Commission, and securing the withdrawal of land acquisition.
“He ensured legal aid for all jailed villagers and stood by us until everyone was released,” Jyothi said, after tying the Rakhi. She said Rama Rao treated her like a sister and stood by her at every step, taking care of their well-being, and also named her daughter Bhoomi Nayak. She called him as a brother to every woman in need in Telangana.
