Team including Telangana Ministers submitting memorandum to Union Minister of State for Tourism Prahlad Singh to strive for declaration of Ramappa Temple as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Warangal: A team from the State government including Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, V Srinivas Goud, Satyavathi Rathod, MLC Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, Youth Services and Cultural Affairs Secretary Srinivas Raju, Kakatiya Heritage Trust (KHT) Convener and former Professor M Panduranga Rao, and TSDTC Executive Director Shankar Reddy left for New Delhi on Wednesday to appeal to the Centre to step up its efforts to get the UNESCO heritage tag for the famous Ramappa temple located at Palampet village in Mulugu district.
The team, on behalf of the State government, submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Tourism Prahlad Singh to strive for declaration of Ramappa Temple as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It may be recalled that UNESCO officials inspected the historic Ramappa Temple in 2019. Located about 70 km away from Warangal, Ramappa is the only temple in the country known by the name of its sculptor rather than the presiding deity.
According to the inscriptions found on the temple, it was built in the year 1213 CE by a general of the Kakatiya empire Recherla Rudra during the reign of Kakatiya King Ganapati Deva, and the temple is known for unique features like ‘floating bricks’, sand box foundations and exquisite carvings.
