Hyderabad: The two-day Telangana Conference for Women in Police concluded on Friday at the RBVRR Telangana Police Academy. It was organised for the first time in the State, with more than 400 women police officers from all ranks, senior officials, and units including civil and armed reserve forces, participating.
Eminent national and international experts, along with IG-level officers from other states, took part in the discussions, which centred on five transformative themes: combating gender bias, training and professional development, workplace harassment, organisational culture, infrastructure and facilities at the workplace, bandobast, work-life balance, and health and wellbeing.
A key concern raised was the low representation of women in the Telangana police. Women constitute only 8.6 per cent of the force across 764 police stations, which is below the national average of 12.32 per cent.
The conference concluded with a visionary agenda for immediate and long-term reforms, with specific recommendations emerging from each theme to strengthen women’s role and representation in policing.
