Kalpana and Sindhu were attacked by the big cat when they were on their way to collect tendu leaves in Desaiganj Wadsa forest range
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Two women, who were in the forest to pluck tendu leaves, were killed by a tiger under Desaiganj Wadsa forest range in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Monday.
According to local foresters, the deceased were identified as Kalpana Dilip Choudari (35) of Mahadawadi and Sindhu Diwakar Munghate (65) of Kurhadi village.
Kalpana and Sindhu were attacked by a tiger in two different spots within 5-km radius, when they were on their way to collect tendu leaves, which is a livelihood for rural folks in summer. Their friends tried to raise an alarm, but in vain. The incident created a flutter among the labourers who depend on this seasonal job.
Meanwhile, Kerthiram Kudimetha (24), a farmer was mauled to death by a tiger when he was taking up some agriculture activity at Janada village in Mul taluq of Chandrapur district. The tiger, prowling on a bush, attacked even as he tried to run away from the spot on Tuesday.
Vanitha Gedem (38), a daily wage earner was killed when she was gathering mahua flowers in the same village four days ago.
