Nagarkurnool: Two days after several students at the Jyotiba Phule Residential School for Girls were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning, an uneasy calm prevailed on the campus on Tuesday.
The school, which houses over 700 students from Classes 6 to 12, witnessed thin attendance as many children were reportedly taken home by worried parents.
On Saturday night, nearly 80 students complained of stomach pain and vomiting after dinner. They were rushed to the government hospital, and on Sunday morning, a few more students were admitted with similar symptoms.
The school management claimed that all affected students received treatment and were in stable condition. However, many parents continued to withdraw their children, and several had not returned to the school by Tuesday.
According to sources, school staff remained tight-lipped about the exact number of students currently on campus or other details related to the incident.
In a notable development, a banner was put up at the school entrance stating that outsiders would not be allowed onto the premises without the District Collector’s approval. Parents have also been instructed not to send biryani or other outside food with their children, as such items will no longer be permitted on campus.
