Unemployed youth hold massive protest in Hyderabad over delay in job calendar
Unemployed youth staged a massive protest in Hyderabad demanding the release of the promised job calendar and recruitment notifications. The agitation was sparked by IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu’s statement on challenges in filling vacancies, which contradicted earlier assurances of two lakh government jobs.

Hyderabad: A massive protest erupted over delay in issuance of job calendar by the Telangana Congress government at Ashok Nagar here on Thursday.
Unemployed youth in large numbers marched from City Central Library in Chikkadpally to Ashok Nagar X roads chanting slogans such as ‘We want the job calendar’ and ‘Immediate recruitment of two lakh jobs’.
Tension prevailed as students in groups staged the protest at Ashok Nagar X roads and several of them were taken into custody by the police. During the process, a scuffle ensued between protesters and the police.
One of the reasons for the protest was a recent statement by IT Minister D Sridhar Babu in the Legislative Council admitting challenges in filling up vacancies in government departments.
“Employment opportunities in the government sector alone will not be possible,” he said.
This triggered a backlash from the unemployed youth who lambasted the Congress government, stating that an assurance to fill 2 lakh vacancies in government departments was given to them during assembly elections.
The unemployed lamented that not even a single recruitment notification has been issued even after two years into the government and questioned the government on mega DSC, police recruitment, and recruitment of Group vacancies, asking when the notifications would be released.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu had on August 2, 2024 unveiled a job calendar in the Legislative Assembly. This job calendar detailed 15 recruitment notifications between September 2024 and April 2025 for various posts, including Group – I, II, III, departments like Health, TGSDPDCL and TGNPDCL. However, the assurance just remained only on paper as neither the job calendar was implemented nor a single recruitment notification issued.
“Earlier, the government said job notifications could not be issued due to SC sub-categorisation. But, even several months after the issue was resolved, the government miserably failed to release a single notification. We demand release of the job calendar and notifications,” said Upendar, a government job aspirant.
