Mancherial: Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) recently issued show-cause notices to doctors belonging to private hospitals in the town asking why action should not be taken against them for practicing medicine beyond their educational qualifications, in violation of ethics of both National Medical Council and Telangana Medical Council Acts.
For instance, a doctor claiming to possess a Diploma in Cardiovascular Technology (DCT) and associated with a multi-specialty hospital was accused of treating patients with orthopedic ailments.
A patient lodged a complaint with the representatives of TGMC who in turn inspected the hospital and issued a notice asking the doctor to provide copies of his educational certificates within a week.
In another instance, a doctor was taking up treatment of diabetics claiming to be a diabetologist without registering his course with TGMC.
A doctor who holds MBBS was handling neurology and trauma cases with the help of local ambulance drivers and rural medical practitioners (RMP). The two doctors were served notices for misleading the public by improperly treating patients without having relevant qualifications, TGMC sources said.
In a similar instance, a senior general surgeon of the town was found to be treating several patients suffering from kidney related health issues without possessing the qualifications. He was under the scanner when a patient’s medical condition deteriorated. A complaint was lodged against the surgeon. A notice was issued to the doctor seeking his explanation.
Meanwhile, doctors belonging to a hospital reportedly operated by an owner of ambulance vehicles were duping the public by rendering super specialty healthcare.
A show-cause notice was served to a pediatrician for generating patients by felicitating RMPs and sponsoring their meetings, flouting ethics and rules of NMC and TGMC Acts.
Representatives of TGMC said that show-case notices were slapped against the unqualified doctors who dupe the public by treating patients without obtaining necessary educational qualifications. They stated that action would be initiated against the doctors based on their explanation to the notices soon.
The registration of the doctor would be cancelled if their explanation was not satisfactory, they revealed. The representatives said they were planning to curb unethical practices in medicine by raising awareness among the public by taking support from stakeholders.
