Karimnagar: The urea shortage in Karimnagar district continued on Monday, forcing farmers to wait in long queues for hours, with protests breaking out in several areas.
In Chigurumamidi mandal, farmers staged a rasta roko on the Karimnagar-Husnabad main road in front of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) demanding immediate fertiliser supply.
Following reports that a lorry carrying urea had reached the PACS, nearly 700 farmers gathered at the centre on Monday morning. However, only 230 bags were delivered, enough for just 125 farmers.
Angered by the inadequate supply, the farmers staged a road blockade. They criticised the State government for its indifference to the crisis, alleging that ryots were forced to go around PACS centres repeatedly with no assurance of fertiliser.
Police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to disperse, assuring them that they would receive urea once additional stock arrived. Tokens were issued to 225 farmers.
Similar problems were reported from Huzurabad and Bommakal, where farmers faced difficulties in getting urea.
