Vasantha Panchami celebrated in Nirmal

Nirmal: Vasantha Panchami annual ceremony marking the birth of Goddess Saraswathi was celebrated with much religious fervour and gaiety on the premises of the ancient Sri Gnana Saraswati Devasthanam of Basar on Saturday. Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy and MLC Dande Vittal presented silk clothing to the goddess on behalf of the State government.
Indrakaran conveyed greetings of Vasantha Panchami, to people of the State. He said that the works related to the temple development were being executed at desired pace. He stated that the temple would be converted into a major pilgrim centre in north Telangana. He added that 50 crore funds were granted for creating various amenities.
Vedic pundits and priests offered special prayers to the goddess and adorned her with colorful flowers at 2 am. They also performed Nava Chandiyagam and Vidyayagam to mark the occasion. The ministers had darshan of the presiding deity following presentation of silk vasthram. They were blessed by the priests.
Around 10,000 devotees belonging to several parts of Telangana and Maharashtra made a beeline to the temple village in connection with the auspicious occasion. They formed serpentine queues and had darshan of the deity. Devotees had a holy dip in Godavari river and thronged the historic abode of goddess Saraswati. They thronged to the temple town from early morning and till evening.
Indrakaran then inaugurated a guest house built at spending Rs 42 lakh. He later inspected renovation works of Sri Mahalaxmi temple at Bangalpet village in Nirmal town. He said that the shrine was being reconstructed spending Rs 3 crore and roping in sculptors from temple town Tirupati. He stated that stones brought from Kanchipuram were being used in the renovation of the temple.
Mudhole MLA G Vittal Reddy, in-charge executive officer K Vinod Reddy and many others were present.
