Khammam: The residents and farmers of Tummalapalli in Konijerla mandal of the district complained that some Congress leaders were obstructing the construction of a low-level bridge across the Pagideru stream in the village.
BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan, accompanied by local leaders and farmers, inspected the ongoing construction works on Saturday and learnt about the hardships being faced by villagers and farmers due to the stalling of the project. A dharna was staged at the construction site.
The bridge construction was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 75 lakh. The farmers alleged that the Congress leaders were intimidating officials with threats of suspension and transfer, forcing them not to visit the construction site.
Madhusudhan remarked that while ruling party leaders and local MLAs ought to cooperate with development initiatives, obstructing them in this manner was reprehensible. Except for tall promises, the Congress party had achieved nothing during its two-and-a-half years in power.
It was shameful that Congress leaders were obstructing the bridge construction intended for public benefit, he said. If the ruling party leaders failed to come to their senses, the people would certainly teach them a fitting lesson in the upcoming elections, he warned.
The MLC assured the locals that he would extend his cooperation to ensure the completion of the Pagideru bridge by coordinating with the concerned officials. Local sarpanch Derangula Venkataramana, BRS leaders Lakavath Giribabu, Potla Srinivasa Rao and Kothapalli Vinay, among others, were present.
