Hyderabad: Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, inaugurated the second annual International Conference on Interventional Pulmonology, BRONCHUS 2021, being organised by Yashoda Hospitals here. The two-day event will focus on best practices in interventional pulmonology from basics to the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics.
In his speech, the Vice President said the field of pulmonology was growing by leaps and bounds. Interventional pulmonology was now employing sophisticated techniques like robotics-assisted procedures and confocal microscopy. Today, life endangering airway tumors can be stented. Even asthma now has biological pharmaceutical products and tuberculosis has a shorter regimen of treatment with fewer drugs, he said.
He added that while urban India could benefit from these technologies, there was an acute lack of such facilities in rural areas. He called upon the private sector to supplement the efforts of the government in creating good healthcare in rural India by opening satellite centres of their facilities. He also urged the stakeholders to address how to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for the citizens.
Speaking about the last two years, Naidu pointed out that the pandemic had reminded us of the importance of maintaining good respiratory health. He asked all youngsters to avoid sedentary habits, unhealthy diet and undertake regular physical activity like yoga or cycling.
