Bhongir: A five-member committee deputed by the BRS Working President KT Rama Rao on Tuesday visited different gurukul schools in the district on Tuesday on a fact finding mission. The team comprising senior leaders R.S. Praveen Kumar, Errolla Srinivas, Anjaneya Goud, and Gellu Srinivas Yadav interacted with students and parents and took note of their grievances.
The committee was prevented by some schools from meeting the students by locking the gates. This act was condemned as a disgraceful attempt to hide the issues. The committee members emphasized that their fight for justice would not be deterred by such actions and vowed to expose the wrongdoings to the public.
The committee reported that the principals of some schools refused to let them inside and insisted on speaking to them outside the gates. They expressed their apprehensions that the administration might act against them for letting the BRS team interact with the inmates of the hostels.
The lack of basic amenities in the schools, such as clean water, quality food, windows, and proper rental arrangements for buildings, was highlighted by the students and their parents. The students are reportedly being provided with substandard materials, and the staff, including principals, are allegedly intimidating the students.
The committee vowed to continue their fight against the Revanth Reddy government until proper facilities are provided to the students. They pointed out that the administration’s failure to provide basic amenities led to tragic incidents, including the death of 48 students due to food poisoning in the past 11 months.
The situation in the social welfare hostels and midday meal programs was dire, with students suffering from a lack of basic facilities, said R S Praveen Kumar.
