Hyderabad: A 45-year-old woman D Savitri turned out to be a prime accused in the murder of her husband D Gangadhar near Fakeerabad in Nizamabad in November 2021.
Savitri allegedly killed her husband as she was unable to bear his torture every day, Nizamabad Police Commissioner KR Nagaraju said on Saturday. Apart from Savitri, the police arrested three other persons – G Sailu (46), G Palanna (48), and B Gangamani (46).
One more person, R Babu (42), who was involved in the murder, is absconding. All the arrested persons were residents of Fakeerabad. According to the Police Commissioner, Savitri was married to Gangadhar, a stone cutter, 25 years ago and the couple was blessed with three children.
For the last few years, Gangadhar used to return home after consuming toddy and harass Savitri. Unable to bear his torture, she took the help of community elders who counselled Gangadhar and advised him to stop consuming toddy. But Gangadhar did not mend his ways and continued to harass his wife.
On coming to know that Savitri was maintaining an illicit relationship with another person, he started beating her. Realising that Gangadhar would not change, she decided to eliminate him with the help of Sailu and three others.
As per the plan, Savitri took Gangadhar to a toddy shop in Fakeerabad. After consuming toddy, she took him to the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society building where she offered him whisky. After Gangadhar slipped into inebriated condition, Savitri and others caught hold of him while Sailu strangled Gangadhar to death.
To conceal the identity, they dumped the body in the middle of the railway track twice and ensured that the body turned into pieces. The case was first registered by the government railway police and later it was transferred to the Nizamabad police, who carried out a detailed investigation and arrested the accused.
