'Young Journos' handed over a cash cheque of Rs 20, 000 to the family of a deceased scribe in Kothagudem on Friday.
Kothagudem: A group of journalists under the banner of ‘Young Journos’ have to come to the rescue of the family of a journalist who died of Covid-19 recently. They extended financial assistance of Rs. 20, 000 to the family of Sumudrala Devakrishna, who worked for a vernacular daily at Kothagudem and died on July 2 undergoing treatment for Covid in Hyderabad. ‘Young Journos’ members raised the amount from their personal contributions.
Journalists Logani Srinivas, T Bhadra Reddy, Ragalla Praveen Kumar, Panduga Reshwant, Ellandula Durgaiah, B Veeru and others visited the residence of the deceased scribe at Punjab Gadda of Ramavaram area here on Friday and handed over a cash cheque to Devakrishna’s wife, Satyavathi, his sons Uday Kiran and Sai Kiran.
They offered homage to the deceased scribe, observed two minutes of silence and consoled the bereaved family. They explained to the family that Telangana Media Academy was offering a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3000 pension to the widow for five years and told them to apply for the same.
‘Young Journos’ also assured that they would extend all possible help to the family in future as well. Scribes G Krishna Rao, B Veeru, B Shankar, B Arun Kumar, Hanumanthu Satyanarayana, U Ramu, Vasala Chandrasekhar, A Rajasekhar, Md. Khaza and others participated. It might be noted that for the past few months Young Journos have also been calling on the scribes who were tested positive for Covid-19 and providing them kits containing dry fruits, medicines and essential commodities like rice, dal and others.
