Hyderabad: The Civil Supplies Department observed that while the overall supply and distribution of commercial LPG from depots had increased, there was still a noticeable lag in delivery in some sectors. The department took serious note of these delays and suspected illegal practices that are disrupting the supply chain.
The Department conducted a review meeting on Monday regarding the supply and distribution of commercial LPG. The meeting was chaired by M Stephen Raveendra, Commissioner of Civil Supplies, in coordination with Nikhil Chakravarthi, IA&AS, Director of Industries, alongside representatives from oil marketing companies (OMCs) and hotel associations.
To curb artificial scarcity, Stephen Raveendra announced a zero-tolerance policy against any illegal supply or black marketing of commercial LPG. A stern warning was issued that those found bypassing the official system and purchasing cylinders through illegal or unauthorised channels will face severe legal consequences.
Stringent action would be taken against distributors, if they are found charging extra amounts above the stipulated price or deliberately causing delivery delays, including the immediate cancellation of their licences, he said.
The review covered the overall industrial sector, including industrial fabrication and foundries. OMCs are determining these allocations for individual hotels and industrial units based on their historical data and average sales records. Furthermore, if any additional allocations are received, they will be immediately pushed into the market to ease the demand, they assured.
