Hyderabad: In protest against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s statement on the closure of 23,000 out of 27,000 government schools across the State, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for a statewide schools bandh on June 23.
The ABVP demanded that the government immediately withdraw its attempts to close government schools and initiate strict action against private and corporate schools, which have been fleecing parents through exorbitant fee hikes.
ABVP national executive member Jeevan said the closure of thousands of government schools across the State would push the future of poor and underprivileged students into uncertainty.
He alleged that the government failed to address issues such as excessive fees in private and corporate schools, teaching vacancies, the compulsory purchase of books from private schools, and negligence in implementing the Right to Education Act.
According to the ABVP, the schools bandh is being organised to demand the provision of basic infrastructure in government schools, filling up vacancies in the education department, fee regulation in private schools, extension of the breakfast scheme to all government schools, and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
