Hyderabad: The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI) have facilitated the registration of a first information report against the Chairman of Metpally Municipality for illegal relocation of over 100 community dogs.
The PETA activists were alerted that over 100 community dogs were allegedly cruelly captured from Matamwada area and stuffed into vans by a group of catchers, reportedly hired by the Chairman of Metpally Municipality to illegally relocate them.
Based on a complaint filed by Adulapuram Goutham of SAFI, Hyderabad, PETA India coordinated with Bollaram Police Station for registration of the FIR under Section 62 read with Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Sections 11(1)(a) and 38(3) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against the Chairman, Metpally Municipality, a PETA press release said.
“Relocation is cruel, illegal and ineffective. The void left by the dogs picked up is quickly filled by other dogs. We urge local municipal bodies to implement humane animal birth control as required by law,” PETA India’s Associate Manager of Cruelty Response, Saloni Sakaria said.
Police have initiated an investigation to trace the missing dogs and determine whether they were illegally abandoned, relocated, or are still alive.
