Hyderabad: The long-delayed Bachupally six-lane bi-directional flyover in Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits is likely to be thrown open to commuters in the second week of June. It will become the first flyover to come into operation after CMC was formed as a new civic body.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Chief Engineer, B Ravinder, told ‘Telangana Today’ that the flyover will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, tentatively on June 8. Arrangements accordingly were being made.
In the year 2022, during the BRS rule, the then MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao had laid the foundation stone for the six-lane flyover near Bachupally X roads. The flyover was supposed to be completed by 2024, but it faced inordinate delays due to various reasons.
However, after a gap of four years, the flyover is now finally being taken up in the north-west part of Hyderabad at Bachupally, which has been recording a high pace of development on the lines of the western parts of Hyderabad due to the real estate boom.
The facility is expected to provide relief from frequent traffic snarls and help thousands of IT professionals and commuters coming from Gandi Maisamma, Gajularamaram, Bachupally, Nizampet and surrounding areas reach their destinations while travelling towards Miyapur, KPHB, Hi Tech City, Madinaguda and Gachibowli.
Given the sharp rise in traffic between these areas, commuting in these stretches has become a nightmarish experience over the years. IT professionals have been lamenting the troubles of commuting, particularly on the Bachupally-Nizampet stretch, with the traffic congestion and long snarls which get more complicated during heavy rains.
“We faced waterlogging areas in this stretch every rainy season. The stretch is too congested and takes hours together in traffic jams, delaying reaching Cyberabad. Now, we hope the new flyover facility will signal-free commute and also save time and fuel,” said Rajeshwar Nair, a resident of Kompally.
