Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday said the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would expose the Congress party for its betrayal of Backward Classes (BCs) regarding reservations.

Speaking at a meeting with BC public representatives, former MLAs, MLCs and senior party leaders at Telangana Bhavan, he said the party would confront the Congress everywhere for trampling on the promises made under the ‘BC Declaration’ before the elections and for deceiving BCs at every step. Also vowing to expose the injustice done to BCs in Telangana by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, he said they would place Rahul Gandhi’s deception before the people of the country, exposing the fact that Gandhi was touring the nation claiming that 42 per cent reservation was already given to BCs in Telangana, even when no such increase was actually implemented in the State.

Demanding that Rahul Gandhi, if he was truly sincere, should use his position as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha to ensure a discussion on this issue in Parliament immediately, Rama Rao questioned why Rahul Gandhi would not raise this issue in Parliament, and whether the BJP at the Centre was not cooperating. If Rahul Gandhi was truly committed to the 42 per cent BC reservation issue, he could have introduced a Private Member’s Bill, he said, demanding that BJP and Congress MPs from Telangana raise this issue in the Lok Sabha during the upcoming parliamentary sessions.

Slamming the BJP for repeatedly speaking about BCs, but betraying them in all aspects, from reservations to fund allotment and the creation of an OBC Welfare Ministry, he said the people were observing the BJP’s deception as well.

Alleging that the Congress party was diverting the entire issue by focusing solely on local body reservations, thereby sidelining the crucial promise of 42 per cent reservation in education, employment, and government contracts which would greatly benefit BCs, he lashed out at the State government for not even mentioning the promise of allocating Rs 20,000 crore per year to BCs in the budget.

The BRS would pressure the Congress party to allocate these funds in the upcoming budget, he said, asking the party cadre to take the message of Congress’ deception regarding the non-implementation of the 42 per cent quota and BC Declaration promises to the village level in various forms.

BCs are with KCR, says Harish Rao

Senior party leader T Harish Rao stated that the BCs of the State were standing with former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He asserted that the welfare and development programmes implemented for BC communities after the formation of Telangana were unprecedented in the history of any government in the country. From supporting traditional caste occupations to establishing residential educational institutions, the BCs of Telangana remember the good work done by Chandrashekhar Rao and were firmly behind him, he said.

Earlier during the meeting, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan gave a PowerPoint presentation on the fraud being committed by the Congress party in the name of 42 per cent reservations. Former Minister and MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who presided over the meeting, stated that all party leaders would take the issue of Congress’ betrayal of BCs to the public. He mentioned that the action plan regarding this would be submitted to the party soon.

Senior leaders Banda Prakash, S Madhusudhana Chary, V Srinivas Goud, Gangula Kamalakar, Jogu Ramanna, Karne Prabhakar and others also spoke at the meeting.
