BRS accuses Congress of neglecting Gurukul education system
RS Praveen Kumar called the Congress government's announcement of a "new menu" misleading, noting that it was the existing menu introduced during the BRS regime.
Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet for their visit to government welfare schools, terming it a superficial “picnic” with no real benefit for students. He termed their visit as an attempt to cover up its failure in the wake of the BRS ‘Gurukula Bata’ programme to study conditions in residential welfare schools.
Addressing mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Praveen Kumar called the Congress government’s announcement of a “new menu” misleading, noting that it was the existing menu introduced during the BRS regime. He reminded that the previous BRS government had increased diet charges to Rs 1,500 per month and also appointed a Cabinet sub-committee in 2023 to increase them further.
He accused the Congress of avoiding accountability for 53 student deaths in welfare schools due to food poisoning and dared the Chief Minister for an open debate at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial. He also pointed out that no investigation or corrective measures were initiated in this regard.
Former MLA Balka Suman charged the Congress government for undermining welfare schools established during K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure. He challenged the Chief Minister and Ministers to spend one night weekly in hostels to grasp ground realities.
Errolla Srinivas, former chairman of Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation, criticised the Congress for staging a “show” in hostels while ignoring students’ grievances. He held the government accountable for student deaths and illnesses, citing inaction and lack of oversight. He asserted that the BRS will raise these issues in the ensuing Assembly session.
