BRS MLC Dasoju slams Congress govt over police cases on Group-1 protesters, demands judicial probe
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar has demanded a judicial probe into alleged irregularities in the TGPSC Group-1 recruitment process. He accused the Congress government of suppressing dissent and violating students’ constitutional rights. Sravan also condemned police action against protesting students.
Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on the Congress government in the state for its handling of the Group-1 recruitment controversy, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Saturday demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) exam process.
Speaking at a press conference, Sravan accused authorities of trampling on students’ constitutional rights by filing police cases against peaceful protesters seeking implementation of a recent Telangana High Court verdict.
The High Court, in its ruling last week, directed the TGPSC to manually re-evaluate the Group-1 mains answer sheets within two months, failing which the entire exam process would be scrapped and fresh tests conducted.
Sravan highlighted how the Commission, a constitutional body, had “grossly mismanaged” the exam, jeopardising the futures of lakhs of aspirants through procedural lapses and biased evaluations. He pointed to disparities, such as only 56 Telugu medium candidates qualifying out of 8,694 who appeared, compared to 506 from English medium—a “shocking evidence of systemic bias.”
The controversy took a serious turn on September 11 when students, led by BRS student wing- BRSV president Gellu Srinivas Yadav, gathered peacefully at Osmania University to submit a memorandum demanding enforcement of the court’s order. Police intervened, denying them the right to even speak, and arrested several participants, detaining them at Amberpet police station.
“This is not just injustice; it’s a blatant assault on democratic rights and freedom of expression,” Sravan thundered, labelling the actions “completely undemocratic.”
Referring to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy—who holds both the Home and Chief Minister portfolios—Sravan questioned: “Is this Ambedkar’s Constitution or Anumula’s? Rahul Gandhi tours the country chanting ‘Jai Samvidhan’ to protect the Constitution, but in Telangana, asking for a High Court verdict to be implemented is a crime? This is unconstitutional. The Constitution isn’t functioning here; it’s a dictator’s regime.”
He warned that such tactics risk turning Telangana into a “police state.”
Outlining five key demands, Sravan called for immediate withdrawal of all police cases against students and unemployed youth, strict implementation of the High Court verdict on Group-1 re-evaluation, a High Court-supervised judicial inquiry into all exam irregularities, a swift action against those responsible, including TGPSC officials and re-conducting the entire Group-1 exam to safeguard aspirants’ futures, modelled on UPSC standards.
